Although we will not have any recommended selections
for the NFL Pre-season, you may get our thoughts on specific games of interest
by sending us an email to logical7@cox.net and we will reply with our any thoughts
we may have on those games
Our thoughts on NFL pre-season games are that although
coaches will tell you that they want to win these games, that it is important to
develop a winning atttude, etc. their actions often contradict those sentiments.
Rarely, if ever, do you see a team's starters play the fourth quarter of a competitive
or close game. If winning the game was truly a priority you'd expect that a team's
best players would be playing when the game is on the line. In actuality, NFL preseason
games are just like spring training games in baseball and exhibition games in the
NBA -- they are for the coaches to determine the best roster with which to begin
the season and the best roles for each of the players. Information can be found in
the media and on the Internet that will reveal a coach's 'game plan' for a preseason
game, but randomness in the second half when many third, fourth and fifth stringers
are playing, often determine the outcome of the game. You can probably name the winners
of the past ten Super Bowls -- and probably who they defeated. But can you name the
team which had the best NFL preseason record in each of the past two seasons?
Bottom
Line -- Pre Season or "exhibition" games are nothing more that scrimmages
played in front of thousands of spectators with games that are often decided by players
who won't even be on opening day rosters. Picking winners is challenging enough then
the games count and both teams are giving their best efforts in an attempt to win.
Rarely does that apply to pre-season contests.
